Job description
A well-established Good secondary school in Walsall is seeking a dependable and proactive Premises Officer to join its facilities team with an ASAP start . This is a full-time, permanent position , ideal for someone experienced in site maintenance, security, and supporting the smooth operation of school premises. The Premises Officer plays an essential role in ensuring that school buildings and grounds are safe, clean, and well-maintained, supporting both staff and pupils in achieving their best. About the Role The successful candidate will assist with day-to-day site management, maintenance, and health and safety compliance. You will work closely with the Premises Manager and the wider facilities team to ensure the school environment remains functional, safe, and welcoming. Key responsibilities include: Carrying out routine maintenance and repairs around the school site Ensuring buildings and grounds are clean, safe, and secure Monitoring heating, lighting, and other building systems Supporting health and safety compliance, including fire safety checks and risk assessments Assisting with the setup of school events, assemblies, and activities Liaising with contractors and service providers as required Responding promptly to site issues and emergencies Experience and Skills The successful candidate will: Have experience in premises, caretaking, or facilities support, ideally in a school environment Demonstrate reliability, initiative, and strong organisational skills Be confident using basic tools and equipment safely Understand and implement health and safety procedures Possess good communication and teamwork skills Be proactive and able to work independently Why Join This School Good-rated secondary school with a supportive leadership team Friendly and collaborative facilities team Opportunities to develop skills and contribute to the wider school community Positive, safe, and structured working environment Salary Competitive, depending on experience.
