Job description

A highly regarded independent school in Harrogate is seeking an enthusiastic and talented Teacher of Spanish to join its successful Modern Foreign Languages department. The Role As Teacher of Spanish , you will teach across Key Stages 3 and 4 , with the opportunity to contribute to KS5 Spanish depending on experience and departmental need. The curriculum is rich, well-sequenced and designed to develop pupils’ fluency, accuracy and cultural understanding. You will deliver lessons that build: Confident listening and speaking through structured practice and purposeful questioning Strong reading comprehension and translation skills using authentic texts Extended writing through modelling, scaffolding and redrafting Secure grammar and ambitious vocabulary through explicit instruction and retrieval Pupils study Spanish through engaging themes such as identity and relationships, school life, leisure, travel and cultural traditions, as well as wider social and global issues at GCSE and A-Level. Lessons encourage pupils to communicate with confidence, express opinions and develop increasingly sophisticated language. You will contribute to shared planning, high-quality assessment and enrichment activities that bring language and culture to life. The Department The MFL department is a collaborative and academically ambitious team with a strong culture of shared resources and professional dialogue. Teachers work together to ensure consistent approaches to: Speaking routines that build confidence and reduce anxiety Grammar teaching that supports accuracy and independence Writing development through modelling and structured practice Assessment and feedback that helps pupils refine performance Spanish is a popular subject in the school, with pupils enjoying the challenge of developing fluency and exploring cultural perspectives.
