Job description

A well-regarded secondary school in Milton Keynes is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Teacher of English to join its committed English department. This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about literacy, language and literature, and who wants to help students build confidence in reading, writing and oracy. About the Role As Teacher of English , you will teach across Key Stages 3 and 4 , with the potential to contribute to KS5 depending on experience and timetable. You will deliver a well-sequenced curriculum that develops: Strong reading comprehension and analytical skills Confident extended writing through modelling, structure and purposeful practice Secure vocabulary, grammar and sentence fluency across year groups Effective exam technique through deliberate practice and precise feedback Students study a range of engaging texts including novels, plays, poetry and non-fiction. Lessons are structured to encourage discussion and interpretation while ensuring pupils develop the skills needed for GCSE success, including comparison, evaluation and sustained argument. You will support learners with different starting points, using effective scaffolding where needed while maintaining high expectations and providing stretch and challenge for high attainers. The English Department The English department is a supportive, well-organised team with a shared commitment to raising attainment and building students’ confidence as readers and writers. Teachers collaborate on planning, share high-quality resources and use consistent approaches to assessment to ensure strong progress for all learners. The department values: Clear explanation, modelling and guided practice in reading and writing Consistent routines that maximise learning time and support positive behaviour A strong focus on literacy, vocabulary and structured extended responses Intervention and revision support that is targeted and well planned at GCSE Staff are supported through coaching, shared planning time and opportunities to develop practice across the department.
