Job description
Welfare Officer – Outstanding Secondary School – Haringey, North London Start Date: As soon as possible Contract: Full-time, Permanent Salary: Paid to scale An outstanding secondary school in the London Borough of Haringey is seeking to appoint a compassionate and dedicated Welfare Officer to support the wellbeing and safeguarding of its students. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people and ensuring every student feels safe, supported and ready to learn. The Welfare Officer plays a crucial role within the school community, working closely with pastoral teams, safeguarding leads and families to promote student wellbeing, attendance and engagement. The successful candidate will be someone who is approachable, organised and committed to supporting students facing challenges. The school is an Outstanding Ofsted-rated 11–18 secondary school known for its inclusive ethos, strong pastoral care and excellent academic outcomes. Students are encouraged to achieve their full potential in an environment that promotes respect, responsibility and resilience. Staff across the school share a commitment to supporting the whole child, recognising that wellbeing and academic success are closely linked. The pastoral team is highly collaborative and works closely with teaching staff to ensure students receive consistent and effective support. Students at the school are respectful, motivated and eager to learn. Behaviour across the school is calm and purposeful, creating a positive learning environment where students feel secure and valued. Key Responsibilities • Provide frontline welfare support to students during the school day • Support students experiencing emotional, social or wellbeing challenges • Work closely with the safeguarding team to support vulnerable students • Assist with attendance monitoring and follow-up procedures • Liaise with parents and carers regarding student welfare and wellbeing • Support the management of the school medical room and first aid provision • Maintain accurate records of welfare incidents and interventions • Work with pastoral staff to develop support plans for students in need • Promote positive wellbeing initiatives across the school • Assist students returning to school after illness or absence • Provide support during unstructured times such as break and lunch • Work collaboratively with external agencies where appropriate School Environment The school places a strong emphasis on student wellbeing and pastoral care.
