Job description
School Business Manager – High Performing Secondary School – Leeds Start Date: As soon as possible Contract: Full-time, Permanent Salary: Paid to scale A successful and forward-thinking secondary school in Leeds, West Yorkshire is seeking to appoint an experienced and strategic School Business Manager (SBM) to oversee the operational and financial management of the school. This is a key leadership position within the school and an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional to play a central role in supporting school improvement and ensuring the efficient running of school operations. The successful candidate will work closely with the Headteacher and senior leadership team to ensure that financial, administrative and operational systems are effective, sustainable and aligned with the school’s strategic priorities. The role requires a highly organised individual who can lead teams, manage resources efficiently and support the long-term development of the school. The school is a Good Ofsted-rated 11–18 secondary school with a strong reputation for academic achievement, student wellbeing and a supportive school culture. The school serves a diverse community and places a strong emphasis on inclusion, high expectations and continuous improvement. Students are respectful, motivated and eager to learn. Key Responsibilities • Lead and manage the school’s operational functions including finance, HR, administration and premises • Develop and manage the school’s budget in collaboration with the Headteacher and governors • Monitor financial performance and ensure effective resource allocation • Oversee procurement processes and ensure value for money across school operations • Manage support staff teams including administration, finance and site staff • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, policies and audit requirements • Develop and implement operational strategies to support school improvement • Support the senior leadership team in long-term planning and decision-making • Manage contracts with external suppliers and service providers • Ensure the effective management of school facilities and resources • Support risk management and health and safety procedures • Prepare financial reports and present information to the governing body School Environment The school prides itself on maintaining a welcoming and inclusive environment where both staff and students feel valued and supported.
