Job description

Joining Arup

Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

Watch this short clip to discover how Arup is shaping a better world and how you could be a part of it!

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Senior / Principal Electrical Engineer to join our Building Engineering team and help deliver a wide range of rail projects. You'll contribute to technical design, project delivery, and the development of our electrical capability across local, national, and international rail programmes.

You'll be part of our Building Engineering group, working closely with colleagues across the UK and globally. Together, you'll support major clients, including Network Rail and regional transport organisations, by delivering clear, well-coordinated electrical engineering solutions.

You'll use the latest Microsoft and Autodesk digital tools to support project delivery, with opportunities to help shape new digital approaches when existing tools don't meet project needs.

As a senior member of the team, you'll communicate effectively with clients and internal partners, helping manage progress, risks, and key milestones. You'll also play an active role in knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement, supporting others and contributing to a collaborative, inclusive working environment.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share, and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas. You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning - to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is Chartered Engineer status (or working towards Chartership via IET or CIBSE) with experience in electrical engineering design
  • Has experience delivering UK multidisciplinary design projects within a consultancy environment
  • Has a background in rail electrical design, including familiarity with rail-specific design stages and major UK rail client standards
  • Has experience with assurance, systems engineering or verification processes used in UK rail projects
  • A track record of producing compliant, technically robust electrical designs within the built environment

As well as competitive, fair and equitable pay, we offer a career in which all of our members can belong, grow and thrive - through benefits that support health and wellbeing, a wide range of learning opportunities and many possibilities to have an impact through the work they do.

We are owned in trust on behalf of our members, giving us the freedom, with personal responsibility, to set our own direction and choose work that aligns with our purpose and adds to Arup's legacy. Our members collaborate on ambitious projects to deliver remarkable outcomes for our clients and communities. Profit Share is a key part of our reward, enabling members to share in the results of our collective efforts.

We also provide Private medical insurance, Life assurance, Accident insurance and Income protection cover. In addition, you'll have access to flexible benefits to help you look after all aspects of your wellbeing and give you the freedom and flexibility to find the best solutions for you, your family, and your individual needs.
