Job description
A dynamic 11–16 secondary school in Hull is seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious ECT Teacher of Spanish to join its Modern Foreign Languages department. This is an excellent opportunity for a newly qualified teacher who wants structured mentoring, clear curriculum guidance and the chance to build confidence within a supportive team. Languages are a valued part of the school’s curriculum, with strong GCSE uptake and a renewed focus on raising standards in speaking, listening and extended writing. The leadership team is committed to strengthening MFL provision and investing in early career development. The Role As an ECT Spanish teacher, you will teach across Key Stages 3 and 4, delivering a carefully sequenced curriculum that builds grammatical accuracy, vocabulary retention and confident communication. You will benefit from: • A reduced timetable in line with ECT entitlements • A dedicated subject mentor within the MFL department • Weekly coaching sessions and structured feedback • Access to shared schemes of learning and centrally resourced lessons • Support with GCSE exam preparation and assessment The department uses retrieval practice and explicit grammar instruction to support long-term retention and fluency. The Department The MFL team is collaborative and reflective, working closely to ensure consistency in planning and assessment. Regular moderation meetings support exam preparation, and the department encourages creative approaches to speaking practice and cultural exploration. Students in Hull respond well to structured lessons and interactive learning. The department incorporates authentic materials and cultural enrichment activities to bring language learning to life. Who We’re Looking For The successful candidate will: • Hold QTS (or be completing QTS this academic year) • Demonstrate strong subject knowledge in Spanish • Show enthusiasm and creativity in language teaching • Be reflective and open to feedback • Build positive relationships with students The ability to offer a second language would be advantageous but is not essential.
