Job description
We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a friendly and inclusive primary school in Ilford, starting as soon as possible. This role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting children with additional needs, helping them access the curriculum and thrive both academically and socially. The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers and the SENCo to provide targeted support for pupils with a range of special educational needs, including learning, behavioural, and communication challenges. The school has a strong ethos of inclusion and values collaboration, ensuring that every child is supported to achieve their potential. You will join a supportive team of teaching assistants and staff who are committed to providing high-quality learning experiences. Senior leaders are approachable and prioritise professional development and staff wellbeing. The Role As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work with individuals and small groups of pupils to support their learning, emotional development, and engagement in class. You will implement individualised strategies, assist with interventions, and provide pastoral support as needed. Observation, record-keeping, and collaboration with teaching staff will be essential to monitor progress and plan next steps. You will also support the wider school environment by promoting inclusion, positive behaviour, and pupil independence. Key Responsibilities Support pupils with special educational needs in class and during interventions Assist with implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and targeted strategies Observe and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teachers and SENCo Support pupils’ social, emotional, and behavioural development Encourage independence and positive learning behaviours Collaborate effectively with teachers, colleagues, and parents Participate in staff meetings, training, and CPD Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and nurturing school environment The Ideal Candidate The successful applicant will: Have experience supporting children with SEN in a school setting Be compassionate, patient, and adaptable Have excellent communication and teamwork skills Be proactive, organised, and reflective Demonstrate a commitment to inclusion and safeguarding Work positively as part of a supportive team Why Join This School?
