Location: Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire Role: ARP (Additional Resource Provision) / Complex Needs Teaching Assistant Contract Type: Full-Time / Term-Time Start Date: Immediate Salary: £21,000–£24,000 per annum (dependent on experience) We are seeking a dedicated and highly motivated ARP / Complex Needs Teaching Assistant to join our specialist provision in Buckinghamshire . This is an exciting opportunity for a professional who is committed to supporting children with complex learning needs, including autism, speech and language difficulties, ADHD, and other developmental conditions . The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers, therapists, and other support staff to ensure that pupils receive personalised, structured, and high-quality learning experiences . About the School and ARP Provision Our school hosts a dedicated Additional Resource Provision (ARP) that caters to children who require specialist support to access mainstream education . The ARP focuses on: Individualised learning: Tailoring educational programs to meet the cognitive, social, and emotional needs of each pupil. Holistic development: Fostering independence, confidence, and social skills alongside academic progress. Inclusive environment: Encouraging pupils to interact positively with peers and staff, supporting integration into mainstream lessons where appropriate. Multi-disciplinary collaboration: Teachers, therapists, and support staff work closely to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs), behaviour support plans, and therapeutic strategies . Role Overview The ARP / Complex Needs Teaching Assistant will provide high-quality one-to-one and small group support for pupils with complex learning needs . You will help implement targeted interventions, support classroom learning, and assist with social, emotional, and behavioural development . You will also support children in developing independence, life skills, and coping strategies , preparing them for successful participation in both academic and social settings. Key Responsibilities One-to-One and Group Support: Provide individualised support to pupils with complex needs, including autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, learning delays, and speech/language difficulties . Deliver targeted interventions under guidance from teachers or therapists. Encourage engagement and motivation in both classroom and practical activities. Classroom Assistance: Support lesson delivery by preparing resources, helping pupils understand tasks, and monitoring progress. Facilitate access to specialist equipment or adaptive technology as required. Assist with behaviour management and ensure that pupils remain safe and focused. Behaviour and Emotional Support: Implement positive behaviour support strategies and de-escalation techniques for pupils experiencing challenges. Record and monitor behaviours, liaising with the SENCO and teachers to update Individual Behaviour Plans (IBPs) . Support pupils in developing self-regulation and coping skills . Assessment and Observation: Observe pupils’ progress and report on learning, social, and emotional development . Contribute to IEPs, behaviour plans, and therapy session notes . Participate in regular reviews to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions. Safeguarding and Wellbeing: Ensure pupils are safe, supported, and treated with respect and dignity . Follow school safeguarding policies and promptly report any concerns. Support pupils with personal care needs where necessary, following training and school procedures. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with teachers, therapists, parents, and other professionals to coordinate learning strategies and interventions . Participate in team meetings, providing observations and recommendations for improving pupil outcomes. Maintain open and professional communication with parents/carers regarding progress, concerns, and achievements. Person Specification The ideal candidate will: Have experience supporting children with complex learning needs in school or ARP settings. Be skilled in behaviour management and de-escalation techniques . Possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills . Be confident delivering one-to-one and small group interventions . Hold or be willing to obtain relevant qualifications such as Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant, CACHE, or SEN-related training . Demonstrate empathy, patience, and resilience , with a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
