Are you a passionate and inspirational History educator with a proven track record of leadership and a desire to shape the future of a thriving History department? We are seeking an exceptional Head of History to lead and inspire our talented team of teachers and students in a prestigious independent girls' school in Kensington. This is a full-time, permanent position commencing in September 2025. About the History Department: The History department is a dynamic and collaborative team with a shared passion for exploring the past and understanding its relevance to the present. We offer a rigorous and engaging curriculum that covers a wide range of historical periods and themes, from ancient civilizations to modern world history. We encourage students to engage with primary sources, conduct independent research, and participate in debates and discussions to develop their understanding of historical events and their significance. About the Role: Lead and manage the History department, providing strategic direction and inspiring a shared vision for excellence in History education. Oversee the delivery of a high-quality History curriculum across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, ensuring that it is engaging, challenging, and relevant to our students' needs and aspirations. Lead, motivate, and develop a team of talented History teachers, providing support, guidance, and professional development opportunities. Oversee the organisation and delivery of a diverse program of extracurricular History activities, including debating societies, history clubs, and trips to historical sites. Foster a love of History in all students, encouraging them to explore the past, develop their research and analytical skills, and appreciate the importance of historical understanding in the modern world. Manage the department's budget and resources effectively. Build strong relationships with parents, external examiners, and the wider school community. Contribute to the school's strategic development and promote the value of History education. Ideal Candidate: Holds QTS or equivalent teaching qualification. Possesses a degree in History or a related field. Has a proven track record of successful leadership and management in a History education setting. Demonstrates a passion for History education and a commitment to student success. Has excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Is confident in building rapport with students, staff, and parents. Has a good understanding of the National Curriculum for History and relevant examination specifications. Is committed to ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
