Location: Barnet, North London Job Title: EYFS Teaching Assistant Contract Type: Full-Time | Term-Time Only Start Date: Immediate or Next Academic Term Salary: Competitive, depending on experience School Overview This large and well-resourced primary school in Barnet is known for its strong Early Years provision and inclusive ethos. The EYFS department benefits from spacious classrooms, excellent outdoor provision, and a collaborative team of teachers and support staff. Teaching Assistants are recognised as key contributors to pupil success and are actively involved in supporting learning, assessment, and classroom routines. Due to continued growth in pupil numbers and additional needs within Early Years, the school is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic EYFS Teaching Assistant to join their EYFS team. Role Purpose As an EYFS Teaching Assistant, you will support Nursery and Reception pupils, helping them to develop confidence, independence, and essential early learning skills. You will work alongside the class teacher to deliver engaging activities and provide targeted support to pupils who require additional help. You will also support children with SEN, EAL, speech and language delay, and emotional or behavioural needs , ensuring that all children are fully included in learning and school life. Key Responsibilities Support EYFS curriculum delivery through play-based learning Provide one-to-one and small group support Assist with phonics, early reading, writing, and maths Support pupils with SEN and additional needs Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation Support classroom routines and transitions Assist with indoor and outdoor learning activities Observe and record children’s progress Work closely with teachers, EYFS staff, SENCO, and parents Support personal care needs where required Maintain safeguarding and health and safety standards The Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, reliable, and passionate about early childhood education. You should have: Experience working in EYFS or early years settings Understanding of child development and the EYFS framework Experience or interest in SEN support A calm, nurturing, and proactive approach Strong communication and teamwork skills Flexibility and resilience in a busy setting Training and Development The school offers: EYFS-focused induction SEN and inclusion training Behaviour management CPD Safeguarding updates Opportunities exist to progress into SEN TA, HLTA, or teaching roles.
