Job description
Head of Technology – Secondary School Start Date: Easter 2025 Location: Basingstoke, Hampshire About the Role: We are seeking an experienced, innovative, and passionate Head of Technology to join our inclusive and diverse secondary school community starting Easter 2025. This is an exciting leadership opportunity to take charge of the Technology Department, driving excellence in the teaching and learning of Design Technology and engineering principles. As Head of Technology, you will lead the development of a dynamic curriculum, inspire both students and staff, and create a supportive, hands-on environment that fosters creativity, innovation, and problem-solving. Key Highlights: Leadership Role: Lead a vibrant and collaborative Technology Department, shaping the direction of Design Technology education within the school and ensuring high standards across the department. Your Responsibilities: Lead the Technology Department, managing a team of talented and passionate educators, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities. Develop and implement the Technology curriculum , ensuring it is dynamic, relevant, and challenging, while fostering students’ creativity and problem-solving skills. Inspire students through innovative teaching practices , using hands-on, project-based learning to engage students and help them apply technology and design principles to real-world scenarios. Regularly assess students’ work and provide constructive feedback, supporting them to reach their full potential. Organize and manage extracurricular activities, such as design competitions, STEM events, after-school clubs, and projects, to further enrich students’ learning experiences. Maintain a high standard of health and safety across all practical workshops and ensure the proper use of tools and equipment. Collaborate with senior leadership and staff across subjects to continuously improve the educational experience and student outcomes in Design Technology. Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage a department, inspire your team, and create an engaging learning environment for students. A passion for Design Technology education and a commitment to providing students with a hands-on, innovative learning experience.
