Job description
A highly selective leading independent senior school in a desirable location in East Sussex is seeking an ambitious and scholarly Teacher of English to join its thriving Humanities faculty in January 2026. Responsibilities Teach engaging and intellectually challenging English Language and Literature lessons across the full age range (Key Stage 3, GCSE, and A-Level). Prepare high-ability students for demanding public examinations, including GCSE and A-Level, maintaining the school's excellent results profile. Lead academic extension activities such as literary societies, public speaking, and debate to promote wider engagement with the subject. Contribute actively to the department's curriculum development and collaborative teaching practices. Act as a dedicated Form Tutor, overseeing the pastoral well-being and academic monitoring of a small student group. Requirements A 2:1 or First-Class degree in English Literature or a related field. Teaching qualification (QTS/PGCE) or equivalent independent sector teaching experience is essential. Demonstrated ability to inspire a love of language and reading in students of all ages. Experience in teaching key texts and critical theory to A-Level standard is highly advantageous. Must align with the school's commitment to traditional academic rigour and excellent scholarship.
