Job description
A highly respected independent school in Hemel Hempstead is seeking a creative and committed Year 1 Teacher to join their thriving KS1 team from January 2026. The successful Year 1 Teacher will plan and deliver an inspiring Year 1 curriculum that secures strong foundations in phonics, early reading, writing and number. The Year 1 Teacher will be part of a supportive phase team and work closely with teaching assistants to ensure every child makes excellent progress. • Year 1 Teacher required for a full-time position • Year 1 Teacher required to work within a leading independent school in Hemel Hempstead • Year 1 Teacher to join a well-resourced and collaborative KS1 department in an independent school The Year 1 Teacher will contribute to the school’s combined academic and pastoral approach: planning differentiated lessons, leading small-group interventions, and contributing to assessment and reporting. This independent school in Hemel Hempstead offers excellent classroom resources, small class sizes and a strong culture of professional development - ideal for a Year 1 Teacher who wants to grow their practice. The appointment will commence January 2026, with the Year 1 Teacher taking part in induction and curriculum planning from January 2026. Key responsibilities for the Year 1 Teacher: Plan and deliver high-quality Year 1 lessons as the Year 1 Teacher. Lead phonics and early reading sessions and track progress as the Year 1 Teacher. Run targeted interventions and communicate pupil progress to parents as the Year 1 Teacher. Work with the phase leader to maintain the independent school’s high standards. Person specification: QTS or equivalent and recent experience as a Year 1 Teacher. Strong subject knowledge in early reading, phonics and number as a Year 1 Teacher. Excellent communication, classroom management and a collaborative mindset - a perfect fit for this independent school in Hemel Hempstead.
