Job description
Wayman Education is looking for a Science Technician to work in an Outstanding School starting immediately on a full-time basis. The school is based in Hertfordshire and is looking for a reliable, proactive, and well-organised Science Technician who can support the delivery of high-quality practical Science lessons across KS3, KS4 and KS5. The school welcomes applications from both experienced Science Technicians and candidates with laboratory, scientific, or STEM-related backgrounds looking to transition into the education sector. • OUTSTANDING graded school • Full-time Science Technician position • Immediate start • Ideal role for candidates with a background in Science, laboratory work, or technical support • MPS (technician scale) salary dependent on experience School Information The school believes that practical Science lies at the heart of developing curiosity, independence, and scientific thinking. Their laboratories are modern, safe, fully equipped, and overseen by a strong team of specialist teachers and senior technicians. Staff are encouraged to innovate, contribute ideas, and help shape the practical curriculum so that students experience the “wow factor” of hands-on Science. The Science department is extremely well supported, and the broader school culture is one of mutual respect, kindness, and professional pride. Staff development is taken seriously, and an excellent CPD programme ensures that all technicians receive full induction, ongoing training, and opportunities to develop new skills — including CLEAPSS guidance, laboratory safety, and technician-specific workshops. Experience and Responsibilities Experience (not all essential): • Science-related Degree, A-Levels, BTEC, or equivalent laboratory background • Experience in a laboratory, educational setting, or STEM-based technical role • Understanding of safe chemical handling, preparation of reagents, and health & safety procedures (training provided) Key Responsibilities: • Preparing, organising, and setting up practical equipment for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics lessons • Supporting teachers during demonstrations and practical experiments • Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety, COSHH, and CLEAPSS guidance • Maintaining, repairing, and safely storing equipment • Managing stock levels and assisting with ordering departmental resources • Ensuring laboratories are safe, clean, and well-organised at all times This is an excellent opportunity for a Science Technician looking to join a high-achieving school with exceptional support, modern facilities, and a friendly, collaborative Science faculty. Salary The salary for this Science Technician position will be paid on the school’s technician pay scale, dependent on experience.
