Job description
A well-established secondary school in Retford is seeking a passionate Teacher of English to join its successful English department from January 2026. This school is known for its strong pastoral care, respectful student culture and commitment to literacy across the curriculum. English is central to the school’s ethos, supporting students not only academically but also in developing confidence, empathy and communication skills. The Role You will teach English across KS3 and KS4 , with the possibility of KS5 teaching for experienced candidates. The department follows a carefully planned curriculum that balances classic texts with contemporary voices. Key aspects of the role include: Teaching Literature and Language at KS3 and GCSE Developing students’ reading, writing and analytical skills Supporting exam preparation with clear structures Using feedback effectively to support progress Contributing to enrichment such as reading groups or theatre visits The English Department The department is collaborative and well-led, with shared planning and moderation reducing workload. New ideas are welcomed, and staff support each other closely.
