Job description

A dynamic and forward-thinking co-educational independent school situated in the accessible West London area of Hounslow seeks an inspiring and experienced Head of Drama for a full-time, permanent position commencing in September. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead and shape a vibrant Drama department within a school committed to fostering creativity and the performing arts. About Our Learning Community: Our thriving independent school provides a supportive and stimulating environment for both boys and girls. We value the arts as an integral part of a well-rounded education and are dedicated to nurturing students' creative talents and building their confidence through performance. The school boasts excellent facilities for drama, including dedicated performance spaces and technical equipment. About the Role: Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Drama department, ensuring the delivery of an engaging and high-quality curriculum across all key stages, likely including GCSE and A-Level Drama and Theatre Studies. Develop and implement innovative teaching methodologies and resources to inspire students and foster a deep understanding of dramatic techniques, theatre history, and performance practices. Lead, support, and mentor a team of Drama teachers, fostering a collaborative and creative departmental culture. Oversee the planning, direction, and production of school plays and theatrical performances, ensuring high standards and providing opportunities for students of all abilities to participate. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning within the department, implementing strategies for continuous improvement and sharing best practices. Contribute to the broader extracurricular life of the school, potentially leading or supporting drama clubs, workshops, and theatre trips. Manage departmental resources effectively, including budgeting and the maintenance of performance spaces and equipment. Work collaboratively with other Heads of Department and the Senior Leadership Team to contribute to the overall artistic vision of the school. Ideal Candidate: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a strong academic background in Drama or a related field. Significant and successful experience teaching Drama at the secondary level, with a proven track record of leadership, raising student achievement, and directing successful theatrical productions, including experience with GCSE and A-Level. A deep and current understanding of the Drama curriculum, assessment requirements, and innovative pedagogical approaches in the performing arts. Exceptional leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate both students and a team of teachers. A demonstrable passion for drama and theatre, with a strong understanding of different genres, styles, and practitioners. Experience in curriculum development, assessment, departmental budgeting, and the technical aspects of theatre production. A commitment to fostering creativity, building confidence, and developing teamwork skills in students through drama. Benefits: Competitive salary (commensurate with experience and independent school pay scales, including a leadership allowance). Excellent opportunities for professional development within a supportive and artistically vibrant independent school environment. The chance to lead a thriving department with excellent facilities and a strong tradition of theatrical performance. A convenient location in the Hounslow area of West London with good transport links. To Apply: Please send your CV
