Job description
Location: Ealing Start Date: January 2026 Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience Are you ready to make a lasting impact in a school that could soon feel like home? A highly respected co-educational school in Ealing is seeking an exceptional Head of Religious Studies — an inspiring leader who can combine academic excellence with a passion for developing curious, reflective, and ethical learners. Job Overview The school is looking for a dynamic and visionary Head of Religious Studies to lead a thriving department from January. You will oversee the teaching of Religious Studies across Key Stages 3 to 5, nurturing intellectual curiosity and fostering a love for philosophical and ethical inquiry among a motivated and respectful student body. The School This celebrated independent school prides itself on developing well-rounded individuals through its personal, social, moral, spiritual, and cultural (PSMSC) programme. Staff well-being and professional growth are at the heart of its ethos, ensuring a supportive environment where teachers and leaders can flourish. Parents speak glowingly of the school’s community spirit, describing staff as “incredible” people who “know the pupils well and engage with them on an individual level.” Within the Humanities Faculty, the Religious Studies Department plays a central role in broadening students’ perspectives. The department regularly welcomes guest speakers, encourages lively debate, and leads enrichment trips both in the UK and abroad, providing students with a truly engaging and experiential education. Your Role as Head of Religious Studies Lead and inspire the Religious Studies Department with vision, enthusiasm, and academic rigour. Deliver outstanding lessons across Key Stages 3–5, modelling excellence in teaching and learning. Oversee curriculum design and development, ensuring it remains challenging, inclusive, and forward-looking. Mentor and support staff within the department, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement. Organise and promote enrichment activities, including talks, workshops, and trips that enhance philosophical and ethical understanding. Contribute to the wider Humanities Faculty and the school’s strategic development. Experience and Qualifications A degree in Religious Studies, Theology, Philosophy, or a closely related discipline. A formal teaching qualification with QTS (e.g. PGCE). Proven experience teaching Religious Studies up to A Level. Demonstrable leadership or departmental management experience. Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills. A deep passion for Religious Studies and a commitment to fostering critical, open-minded inquiry. The legal right to work in the UK. Application If you are a motivated and forward-thinking Religious Studies educator ready to lead a department that values discussion, exploration, and excellence, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your CV and a covering letter at your earliest convenience.
