Job description
A successful 11–18 academy in Yeovil, rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, is looking to appoint a SENCO to lead the school’s SEND provision from January 2026. This is a full-time, permanent role ideal for an experienced teacher with a strong understanding of inclusive practice and the ability to lead strategically. About the Role The appointed SENCO will oversee all aspects of the school’s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) strategy, ensuring that every student receives appropriate support and achieves their full potential. They will coordinate the identification of SEND needs, lead staff training, and work closely with families and external agencies to ensure high-quality provision. Key Responsibilities Oversee the strategic direction and day-to-day operation of the school’s SEND provision. Coordinate the writing and review of EHCPs and support plans. Deliver training and guidance to staff on differentiation and classroom support strategies. Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure effective communication. Monitor data, track progress, and evaluate the impact of interventions. Lead the SEND team, ensuring resources are used effectively and equitably. About the School The school has a strong reputation for inclusion and pastoral support, with a dedicated Learning Support Centre that offers targeted interventions and access to technology-based learning tools. Staff are encouraged to work collaboratively to ensure that SEND provision is consistent across all departments. Professional development is supported through a trust-wide CPD network and opportunities for further qualification. Experience and Qualifications QTS and a NASENCO qualification (or willingness to complete). A strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice (2015). Excellent communication and leadership skills. Experience coordinating or delivering SEND provision in a secondary setting.
