Job description
Location: Kirkdale, Liverpool Job Title: Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant Start Date: ASAP Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-Term / Temp-to-Perm Salary: Competitive daily rate, dependent on experience Key Stages: EYFS, KS1 and KS2 (based on school need) The Role A supportive and inclusive primary school in Kirkdale, Liverpool , is seeking a motivated, patient, and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis with an immediate start . This is a highly rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and committed to helping pupils overcome barriers to learning. You will be working closely with pupils who present with a range of needs including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, speech and language difficulties, sensory processing challenges, and moderate learning difficulties . Support may be delivered on a 1:1 basis or within small group interventions , depending on individual pupil needs and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). This role requires consistency, empathy, and strong communication skills, as you will play a vital role in supporting pupils’ academic progress, emotional regulation, and social development throughout the school day. Key Responsibilities As an SEN Teaching Assistant in Kirkdale, your responsibilities will include: Providing 1:1 SEN support to pupils with additional needs Supporting small group interventions focusing on literacy, numeracy, communication, and emotional regulation Assisting pupils to access the curriculum in line with their abilities Implementing strategies outlined in EHCPs, IEPs, and behaviour support plans Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, sensory needs, and social interaction Promoting positive behaviour, independence, and confidence Working closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and support staff Supporting pupils during transitions, playtimes, and lunchtimes Using visual supports, sensory resources, and differentiated materials Monitoring progress and recording observations Supporting personal care where required (training provided if needed) Maintaining a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment Upholding safeguarding and child protection policies at all times The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will: Have experience supporting children with SEN in a school or care setting Be patient, empathetic, and emotionally resilient Have a good understanding of Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and communication needs Be confident supporting behaviour using positive strategies Be flexible, reliable, and proactive Have strong communication and teamwork skills Be available for an ASAP start Be fully committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing Experience with EHCPs, sensory integration techniques, or speech and language interventions is desirable but not essential.
