Job description
A well-established and high-performing secondary academy in Birmingham is seeking a meticulous and proactive Finance Officer to join its business support team. The school operates with strong financial governance and clear operational systems, ensuring resources are managed effectively to support high-quality teaching and learning. This role sits within a professional and experienced finance team and offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the financial health and compliance of a busy secondary school environment. The Role As Finance Officer, you will support the full finance cycle, including purchase ledger processing, income reconciliation and budget monitoring. You will work closely with the School Business Manager to ensure financial procedures are compliant with academy trust and local authority guidelines. You will be responsible for processing purchase orders, reconciling supplier statements, preparing payment runs and assisting with monthly budget reports. The role also involves supporting audit preparation and ensuring accurate financial documentation is maintained. Key Responsibilities • Process invoices and manage purchase ledger workflows • Reconcile bank statements and credit card transactions • Monitor departmental budgets and flag variances • Assist with month-end reporting and financial returns • Maintain accurate financial records in line with audit requirements • Liaise with staff and suppliers regarding finance queries The School Environment Located in Birmingham, the academy serves a diverse and ambitious community and has built a reputation for strong leadership and effective operational management.
