Job description
Finance Officer required January 2026 Good mixed school based in Stevenage Finance Officer to join a professional, experienced and efficient support team Our Client is looking for a Finance Officer to work within a large mixed comprehensive school in Stevenage. This is a key role in the school’s business operations, ideal for someone with strong attention to detail and a genuine interest in school finance. The successful candidate will support day-to-day financial processes, assist with budgeting and reporting, and ensure that financial procedures are followed accurately. School Information This 11 to 18 school has approximately 1,250 pupils and is known for its consistent academic performance and well-run systems, with 93 percent of students achieving grades 9 to 4 in English and Maths. The school has a reputation for being efficient, well-organised and proactive in its financial planning and resource management. The Finance Officer will work within a small, supportive finance team under the direction of the School Business Manager. Responsibilities include processing invoices, handling purchase orders, reconciling accounts, supporting payroll data, and liaising with suppliers and staff regarding financial queries. There may also be involvement in year-end processes and external audits. Staff describe the environment as organised, calm and respectful. The school values its support staff and provides training on internal systems, financial software and any updates to financial regulations relevant to the sector. There is scope for progression for candidates who demonstrate initiative, accuracy and a commitment to continuous improvement.
