Job description
We are currently seeking an experienced, dedicated and forward-thinking SENCO to join a well-regarded and inclusive secondary school in Bournemouth. This is a full-time, permanent position starting January 2026, offering an excellent opportunity to lead and strengthen SEND provision within a supportive and ambitious school community. About the SEND Department The SEND team is well-established, highly skilled and central to the school’s inclusive practice. The department benefits from: • A dedicated SEND base and intervention rooms • A strong team of Teaching Assistants and specialist support staff • Effective systems for early identification, intervention and progress tracking • Excellent links with external agencies and therapy services • Strong leadership support and commitment to SEND training across the school The school is looking for a SENCO who is passionate about inclusion and able to lead with clarity, empathy and high expectations. About the Role As SENCO, your responsibilities will include: • Leading the strategic and operational development of SEND provision • Overseeing the identification, assessment and support of students with additional needs • Managing EHCP processes, reviews and statutory paperwork • Supporting classroom teachers with differentiation and inclusive classroom practice • Line-managing TAs and contributing to whole-school SEND CPD • Monitoring student progress and coordinating targeted interventions • Working closely with parents, carers and external agencies • Ensuring all SEND-related policies, procedures and compliance are fully up to date • Playing an active role in the pastoral and safeguarding structures of the school This is a key leadership role requiring strong communication, organisation and a commitment to ensuring the best outcomes for all learners. Experience and Qualifications • Qualified SENCO (NASENCO) or willingness to complete the qualification • QTS (PGCE or equivalent) • Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and inclusive teaching strategies • Experience supporting SEND in a secondary school setting • Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills • Commitment to safeguarding and student welfare Salary Paid to scale – MPS/UPS + TLR depending on experience and responsibility level.
