Job description
Location: Barnet, North London Job Title: Intervention Teaching Assistant (SEN Focus) Start Date: ASAP Contract Type: Full-Time / Part-Time considered Salary: Competitive, depending on experience About the Role A vibrant primary school in Barnet is seeking an experienced and committed Intervention Teaching Assistant to provide targeted support for pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) . This is a hands-on role where you will work closely with pupils 1:1 and in small groups , delivering interventions in literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional learning to help pupils achieve their potential. The role requires a flexible and empathetic approach , as you will support pupils with a range of needs, from mild learning difficulties to more complex SEN requirements. By implementing structured programs and individual support plans, you will help pupils develop confidence, overcome barriers to learning, and make measurable progress . Key Responsibilities Deliver targeted interventions 1:1 or in small groups , in line with Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and EHCPs Monitor pupil progress, maintain accurate records, and report findings to the SENCO and class teachers Support pupils in literacy, numeracy, social-emotional learning, and communication skills Implement positive behaviour support strategies , helping pupils to develop emotional regulation and interpersonal skills Assist teachers in differentiating classroom activities to ensure access to the curriculum for all pupils Liaise with parents, therapists, and external professionals to ensure consistent approaches Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development initiatives Person Specification Proven experience in supporting SEN pupils or delivering targeted interventions Strong literacy and numeracy knowledge Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills Patience, empathy, and adaptability in supporting diverse needs Relevant qualifications such as Level 3 Teaching Assistant, ELSA, or SEN-specific training Desirable: experience with intervention programs such as Little Wandle, 1st Class@Number, or Lego Therapy .
