Job descriptionWe are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and experienced Year 6 Teacher to join a supportive and inclusive primary school in Chelmsford, starting as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about Upper Key Stage 2 and enjoys preparing pupils for the transition to secondary education. The Role As a Year 6 Teacher, you will be responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing high-quality lessons across the Key Stage 2 curriculum. You will support pupils’ academic progress, social and emotional development, and prepare them for the challenges of Year 7. Collaboration with teaching assistants, colleagues, and parents will ensure pupils receive consistent and effective support throughout the year. You will foster a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment where pupils are encouraged to be independent, resilient, and confident learners. Monitoring and tracking pupil progress, providing targeted interventions, and maintaining clear communication with families are key parts of the role. Key Responsibilities Plan, deliver, and assess engaging lessons across the Year 6 curriculum Deliver high-quality literacy, numeracy, and foundation subject teaching Differentiate learning to meet the needs of all pupils, including SEND and EAL Support pupils’ independence, resilience, and positive behaviour Maintain a structured, inclusive, and positive classroom environment Track pupil progress and maintain accurate assessment records Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, colleagues, and senior leaders Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding pupil progress Contribute to staff meetings, CPD sessions, and whole-school initiatives Support enrichment activities, school events, and extra-curricular opportunities Ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are followed at all times Who We’re Looking For The ideal candidate will: Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) Have experience teaching Upper Key Stage 2, ideally Year 6 Demonstrate excellent classroom management and organisational skills Be reflective, proactive, and adaptable Show a strong commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and pupil wellbeing Work effectively as part of a collaborative and supportive team Location The school is based in Chelmsford, with excellent transport links and a supportive local community.
