Job description
School Business Manager (SBM) – Independent Secondary School – Tunbridge Wells Start Date: As soon as possible Contract: Full-time, Permanent Salary: Paid to scale School Information This established independent 11–18 secondary school in Tunbridge Wells is recognised for its strong academic outcomes, excellent facilities, and structured leadership framework. The school combines traditional educational values with modern operational systems and maintains high levels of parental engagement. Financial sustainability, operational efficiency, and strategic planning are central to the school’s continued success. Governance is robust, and senior leaders work collaboratively to ensure long-term growth and stability. The school is seeking an experienced and strategic School Business Manager. Role Overview The School Business Manager will oversee financial, HR, and operational functions. Key responsibilities include: Leading financial planning and budget management Preparing financial forecasts and reports for governors Overseeing HR processes and recruitment compliance Managing procurement and contracts Supervising administrative and site teams Ensuring regulatory compliance Managing risk assessments and insurance Supporting capital projects Monitoring operational performance Contributing to strategic planning This is a senior leadership support role requiring strong organisational and financial expertise. Leadership Structure The SBM works directly with the Headteacher and governing body, providing operational and strategic oversight.
