HR Officer – Good Secondary School – Southampton Start Date: As soon as possible Contract: Full-time, Permanent Salary: Paid to scale School Information This Good-rated 11–18 secondary school in Southampton (Sholing area) is well-regarded for its strong staff culture, excellent leadership, and commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive environment. The school has grown significantly in recent years and now operates with a highly efficient administrative and HR team that supports over 150 teaching and support staff. The school prides itself on its positive staff wellbeing initiatives, structured professional development pathways, and open, collaborative working environment. The HR department plays a crucial role in staff onboarding, recruitment, compliance, policies, and maintaining a safe and well-run school environment. The school benefits from modern office facilities, a centralised HR management system, and a leadership team that values communication, professionalism, and support across all departments. Role Information The school is seeking an organised, proactive, and professional HR Officer to provide high-quality HR administration and operational support across the school. Key responsibilities include: Managing the full recruitment cycle: advertising roles, shortlisting, arranging interviews, and issuing offer letters Processing DBS checks, right-to-work documentation, and safeguarding compliance Coordinating onboarding and induction processes for all new staff Maintaining personnel files and updating staff details on the HR system Supporting payroll administration, staff absence recording, and contractual changes Advising staff on HR policies, procedures, and employment matters Assisting with staff wellbeing initiatives and internal communications Ensuring compliance with safer recruitment statutory guidance Preparing HR reports for senior leaders and governors Supporting the performance management cycle and CPD tracking This role is central to maintaining efficient, compliant operations within the school. Requirements Experience in HR (school setting desirable but not essential) Strong understanding of HR processes, policies, and employment law Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail Excellent communication and professional conduct Ability to use HR systems, MIS platforms, and Microsoft Office Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work discreetly and sensitively Ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities Commitment to safeguarding and safer recruitment practices Application To apply, please send your CV as soon as possible.
