Job description
We are seeking a patient, empathetic, and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Streatham, starting as soon as possible. This role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting pupils with additional needs, helping them access learning and develop academically, socially, and emotionally. The school has a strong inclusive ethos and works closely with families and colleagues to ensure every pupil receives tailored support. Staff collaborate to create a nurturing, structured, and stimulating learning environment where children feel valued, confident, and motivated to succeed. Senior leadership is approachable and provides guidance, mentoring, and professional development opportunities to help staff thrive. The Role As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and the SENCo to provide targeted support for pupils with additional learning needs. Your responsibilities may include one-to-one or small group support, assisting pupils in lessons, and helping them develop independence, confidence, and positive learning behaviours. You will monitor and record pupil progress, provide feedback to teachers, and help implement interventions designed to meet individual needs. Collaboration with colleagues, parents, and external professionals is essential to ensure consistent support for all pupils. Key Responsibilities Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEND Assist in implementing personalised learning plans and EHCP targets Support pupils academically, socially, and emotionally Promote independence, confidence, and positive learning behaviours Help pupils access lessons and remain engaged Observe, monitor, and record pupil progress accurately Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCo, and support staff Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals when required Maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment Support pupils during transitions, break times, and structured activities Attend staff meetings, training, and CPD sessions Ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are followed at all times Who We’re Looking For The ideal candidate will: Have experience supporting pupils with SEND in a school setting Be patient, empathetic, and resilient Demonstrate excellent communication and teamwork skills Be proactive, flexible, and reliable Show a strong commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and pupil wellbeing The school is located in Streatham, with excellent transport links and a supportive local community.
