Job description
A highly respected independent girls’ school in Birmingham is seeking a passionate and academically strong Teacher of History to join its thriving Humanities faculty. The school is known for its outstanding academic outcomes, exceptional pastoral care and a culture that encourages intellectual independence and leadership. History is one of the school’s flagship subjects, with strong uptake at GCSE and A-Level and a tradition of students progressing to competitive university courses. Pupils are inquisitive, articulate and highly motivated, responding well to scholarly discussion and challenge. The Role You will teach History across Key Stages 3–5, delivering a broad and academically rigorous curriculum. The department values depth of knowledge, source analysis and structured essay writing, preparing students thoroughly for external examinations while fostering genuine enthusiasm for the subject. Sixth Form teaching is a key component of the role, with small classes allowing for seminar-style discussion and detailed feedback. Teachers are encouraged to draw on their own academic interests and research to enrich lessons. Department & Academic Life The Humanities faculty is collegiate and reflective, meeting regularly to refine curriculum content and share best practice. Students take part in Model United Nations conferences, essay competitions and academic enrichment lectures hosted both on site and through local university partnerships. Classrooms are well-equipped, and the school’s library and Sixth Form centre provide excellent independent study facilities.
