Job description
We are seeking a caring, patient, and enthusiastic EYFS Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive primary school in Maidstone, starting as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children in their first stage of formal education and helping them develop essential social, emotional, and academic skills. The school has a strong child-centred ethos, prioritising inclusion, collaboration, and pupil wellbeing. Staff work closely together to create a safe, structured, and stimulating learning environment where children feel confident, motivated, and inspired to learn. Senior leadership is approachable and committed to providing mentoring, guidance, and professional development for all staff. The Role As an EYFS Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher to support the learning and development of children in Nursery and Reception. You will assist with delivering engaging lessons, supporting children individually and in small groups, and fostering a classroom environment that encourages curiosity, independence, and confidence. You will also help observe and monitor children’s progress, contribute to assessments, and implement interventions to meet individual learning needs. Collaboration with colleagues and communication with parents is essential to ensure each child receives personalised support and guidance. Key Responsibilities Support the class teacher in delivering high-quality EYFS lessons and activities Assist children in developing social, emotional, and academic skills Provide individual and small group support as required Promote early communication, language, literacy, and numeracy skills Encourage positive behaviour, independence, and confidence Observe, monitor, and contribute to children’s progress assessments Maintain a safe, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment Support daily routines, transitions, and personal care as needed Build strong, positive relationships with children, parents, and staff Contribute to staff meetings, CPD sessions, and whole-school initiatives Ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are followed at all times Who We’re Looking For The ideal candidate will: Have experience working in an EYFS or early years setting Be patient, nurturing, and enthusiastic Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills Be proactive, reliable, and adaptable Have a good understanding of the EYFS framework Show a strong commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and child wellbeing The school is located in Maidstone, with excellent transport links and a supportive local community.
