Job description
A prestigious and high-achieving grammar school in Dorset is seeking an exceptional Head of Music to lead its thriving department from April 2026. This is an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious and accomplished Music specialist to take on a key leadership role within a school renowned for academic excellence, high expectations, and strong pupil engagement. Music is a valued and high-profile subject within the school, with strong uptake at GCSE and A Level and a vibrant culture of performance and enrichment. The Role Leading and managing the Music department across KS3, KS4, and KS5 Driving high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment Developing an ambitious and well-sequenced Music curriculum Overseeing concerts, ensembles, productions, and enrichment activities Supporting and mentoring colleagues within the department Managing departmental resources and contributing to whole-school leadership The Ideal Candidate Will Have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) A degree in Music or a closely related subject Proven experience teaching Music at secondary level, including KS5 Previous leadership experience within a department or readiness to step up A strong track record of raising attainment and promoting musical excellence Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills School Information This prestigious grammar school in Dorset is recognised for its exceptional academic outcomes, exemplary pupil behaviour, and strong culture of aspiration.
