Job description
Location: Brighton Start Date: ASAP Salary: Support staff pay scale, dependent on experience A large and well-established secondary school in Brighton is seeking a proactive and organised Finance Assistant to join its busy finance department. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to develop their career in school finance within a supportive and structured environment. About the Role The Finance Assistant will provide vital administrative and financial support across the department. Key responsibilities include: Processing invoices, purchase orders, and expense claims accurately and promptly. Maintaining and updating financial records and databases. Assisting with bank reconciliations and other routine finance tasks. Responding to finance-related enquiries from staff, suppliers, and other stakeholders. Supporting the Finance Manager in monitoring budgets, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with financial procedures and controls. Contributing to the smooth running of the department through effective organisation and attention to detail. About the School This 11–18 secondary school educates around 1,350 pupils and is recognised for its strong financial controls, well-established procedures, and supportive leadership. The finance and administrative teams are central to the school’s success, and staff enjoy a culture that is: Structured and professional Respectful and supportive Focused on teamwork, collaboration, and manageable workloads Person Specification The ideal candidate will: Have previous experience in finance, administration, or a similar support role. Be highly organised, with excellent attention to detail. Be confident using Microsoft Office and financial software (training can be provided). Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills. Be proactive, reliable, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
