Job description
A welcoming and forward-thinking secondary school in Hertfordshire is seeking a reliable and hardworking Caretaker to join their premises team for an immediate start . This is a full-time opportunity to play a crucial role in ensuring the school environment is safe, clean, and well-maintained. About the Role Working as part of the premises team, you will support all aspects of site maintenance, security, and general upkeep. Your duties will include: Opening and closing the site Routine maintenance and minor repairs Supporting health and safety compliance Conducting regular site checks Ensuring classrooms, corridors, and communal areas are safe and ready for learning Monitoring heating, lighting, and building utilities Setting up rooms for exams, events, meetings, and assemblies Liaising with external contractors Supporting cleaning teams when needed This is a vital “front-facing” operational role, requiring someone who takes pride in maintaining high standards across the school building. School Information The school is known for its strong pastoral culture, positive staff relationships, and caring approach to student wellbeing. The environment is calm, supportive, and well-structured, with clear communication across departments. Candidate Requirements Prior experience as a caretaker, handyman, or in a practical maintenance role Good understanding of health & safety and safe working practices Basic DIY/repairs ability Reliability, punctuality, and pride in maintaining high standards A positive, solution-focused approach A DBS check is required (the school can support with this).
