Job description
We are seeking a caring, patient, and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Gillingham, starting as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting pupils with additional learning needs and helping them achieve their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally. The school has a strong inclusive ethos and prides itself on providing tailored support for pupils with a wide range of needs, including ASD, ADHD, social, emotional, and communication needs. Staff work collaboratively to ensure each child receives high-quality support. Senior leadership is approachable and committed to staff development, offering guidance, mentoring, and professional training. The Role As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and the SENCo to provide targeted support for pupils with additional needs. Your responsibilities will include one-to-one support, small-group interventions, and in-class assistance to help pupils access the curriculum. You will play a key role in supporting pupils’ social, emotional, and behavioural development, helping them to build confidence, independence, and resilience. You will also liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure coordinated support, contributing to personalised learning plans and strategies that help pupils thrive in school. Key Responsibilities Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with SEND Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCP targets Support pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development Promote positive behaviour, independence, and confidence Observe, record, and report on pupil progress Work closely with teachers, SENCo, and other support staff Support pupils during transitions, break times, and structured activities Contribute to staff meetings, CPD sessions, and school initiatives Maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment Follow safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times Who We’re Looking For The ideal candidate will: Have previous experience supporting pupils with SEND in a school setting Be patient, empathetic, and resilient Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills Be proactive, flexible, and reliable Show a clear commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and pupil wellbeing Location The school is based in Gillingham, with excellent transport links and a supportive local community.
