Job description
Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant Location: London Borough of Ealing, West London Pay Rate: £90–£125 per day, dependent on experience and responsibilities Contract Type: Full-time, long-term role with the possibility of a permanent position Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, term time only Start Date: Immediate start available or next academic term Introduction A supportive and inclusive primary school located within the London Borough of Ealing is currently seeking a dedicated and motivated Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join its growing support team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and is committed to helping them overcome barriers to learning in a nurturing educational environment. The successful candidate will work closely with pupils who require targeted SEN support, helping them to engage with learning, develop emotionally and socially, and build the confidence needed to succeed both in school and beyond. Pupils and Types of Needs Supported As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils across a range of ages and abilities. Pupils may present with: Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs Speech, language, and communication difficulties Sensory processing differences Learning delays and developmental differences Support may be delivered on a one-to-one basis or through small group interventions , depending on individual needs and school priorities. Some pupils may require consistent support throughout the school day, while others may need targeted assistance during specific lessons or activities. Key Responsibilities Your responsibilities as an SEN Teaching Assistant will include: Providing consistent, individualised support to pupils with SEN Supporting pupils to access the curriculum and participate fully in lessons Working alongside the class teacher to adapt learning materials Implementing strategies from EHCPs and SEN support plans Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour management Encouraging positive social interaction and communication Supporting transitions between lessons and activities Assisting during break times and lunchtimes when required Recording observations and sharing progress updates with teachers and SEN staff Supporting personal care needs where required, always with dignity and respect Helping to maintain a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment You will be expected to promote independence while ensuring pupils feel supported and secure. The Ideal Candidate The school is seeking an SEN Teaching Assistant who is: Patient, empathetic, and understanding Emotionally resilient and able to manage challenging situations Passionate about inclusive education and SEN support Confident working with pupils who may display challenging behaviour A strong communicator and effective team player Flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of pupils Previous experience working with children with SEN is highly desirable, whether in a school, care, or support setting. However, candidates with transferable skills and a strong commitment to SEN are also encouraged to apply. Skills, Knowledge, and Attributes Essential skills and attributes include: A basic understanding of special educational needs and inclusion Confidence in following behaviour support plans Strong observational and reporting skills Ability to remain calm under pressure Willingness to engage in training and professional development A proactive and positive approach to problem-solving Formal SEN qualifications are not essential, as training and ongoing support will be provided.
