Position: SEN Teaching Assistant Location: Croydon South, South London Pay Rate: £100–£130 per day, depending on experience Contract Type: Full-time, term-time Working Hours: Monday to Friday Start Date: Immediate or next academic term Introduction A thriving, inclusive primary school in Croydon South is seeking a dedicated Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) . This role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting children with diverse learning, communication, and behavioural needs. You will play a central role in helping pupils access lessons, develop confidence, and thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The SEN TA will collaborate with class teachers, the SENCO, and external specialists to provide one-to-one and small group support , ensuring pupils receive tailored interventions that match their specific needs. Pupil Profiles and SEN Needs The SEN TA will work with pupils who may have: Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) : Support with social communication, routines, and sensory sensitivities Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) : Guidance with focus, organisation, and self-regulation Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs : Support managing emotions, anxiety, and social interactions Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN) : Targeted interventions to develop communication and confidence Learning Delays : Additional support in literacy, numeracy, and curriculum access Sensory Processing Needs : Individualised strategies or classroom adaptations to engage effectively Support may be delivered one-to-one, in small groups, or integrated into whole-class lessons , depending on individual needs and SENCO guidance. Key Responsibilities The SEN TA’s responsibilities include: Delivering personalised support to pupils with SEN Supporting pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development Collaborating with class teachers to adapt lesson plans and resources Implementing strategies from EHCPs, behaviour plans, and individual support plans Supporting pupils’ emotional regulation, behaviour, and social skills Encouraging positive peer relationships and communication Assisting with transitions, playground supervision, and lunchtimes Observing, recording, and reporting pupil progress Providing feedback to teachers, SENCOs, and external specialists Supporting personal care needs with dignity Promoting independence while offering structured guidance Contributing to a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment This role requires patience, adaptability, and creativity to meet the diverse needs of pupils. Candidates with experience in care work, youth work, behaviour support, or mental health services are encouraged to apply.
