Job description
Position: SEN Teaching Assistant Location: Langley, Slough Area, Berkshire Pay Rate: £90–£120 per day, dependent on experience Contract Type: Full-time, long-term with potential for permanent placement Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, term time only Start Date: Immediate or next academic term Introduction An inclusive primary school in Langley , a thriving subarea of the Slough borough, is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join its SEN support team. This role is perfect for individuals who enjoy making a real difference to children who face additional learning, social, or emotional challenges. As an SEN TA, you will work closely with pupils who require support to access lessons, regulate emotions, develop social skills, and achieve their potential academically. This is a hands-on, varied, and highly rewarding role, offering daily opportunities to support growth and confidence in children. Pupils and SEN Needs In this role, you will support pupils with a range of needs, which may include: Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs Speech, language, and communication difficulties Sensory processing challenges Learning delays and developmental differences Support may be provided on a one-to-one basis , or within small groups , depending on individual pupil needs. Some pupils require full-day support, while others benefit from targeted intervention sessions during lessons or structured activities. Key Responsibilities Your responsibilities will include: Providing individualised support to pupils with SEN to help them access learning Working alongside teachers to adapt lessons and resources to meet pupil needs Implementing strategies from EHCPs and individual support plans Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour management Encouraging social skills, positive interactions, and communication Assisting with transitions between lessons, activities, and unstructured periods Supervising pupils at break and lunchtimes Monitoring pupil progress and recording observations Providing feedback to teachers, SENCOs, and external specialists Supporting personal care needs when necessary, with dignity and sensitivity Promoting independence while offering structured guidance Contributing to a safe, inclusive, and nurturing school environment The Ideal Candidate The school is seeking someone who is: Patient, empathetic, and emotionally resilient Passionate about supporting children with additional needs Flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of pupils A strong communicator and collaborative team player Confident supporting pupils with challenging behaviours or additional emotional needs Previous experience in a school or SEN setting is desirable, but applicants with experience in care, youth work, mental health support, or behaviour support are also encouraged to apply if they are committed and enthusiastic. Skills and Qualities Required Understanding of SEN and inclusive educational practice Ability to remain calm and consistent in challenging situations Strong observational, communication, and reporting skills Confidence implementing behaviour support plans Willingness to engage in ongoing training and professional development Proactive, positive, and solution-focused approach Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare Formal SEN qualifications are not essential, as training and ongoing support will be provided.
