🏰 History Teacher with Responsibility (TLR) – Outstanding Merton Academy 🏆 Lead Modern History Excellence in South West London, Start January 2026 We are seeking an enthusiastic, ambitious, and committed History Teacher to join the thriving Humanities faculty at an Outstanding Ofsted-rated secondary academy in the London Borough of Merton . This is a full-time, permanent position starting in January 2026 . History Teacher required with responsibility (TLR available) Full-time, Permanent position starting January 2026 Exceptional, Outstanding-rated secondary academy in Merton Teach History across Key Stages 3 & 4 (KS3/KS4), with potential for Key Stage 5 (KS5) The Opportunity The successful applicant will be an inspirational and highly effective History specialist , ideally with a focus on Modern History , and the drive to excel within a supportive, high-achieving environment. This role is a significant opportunity for a teacher looking to take the next step in their career, as it comes with a Teaching and Learning Responsibility (TLR) payment . The TLR reflects an essential responsibility within the Humanities Faculty that supports the academy's commitment to outstanding education and student progress. While the specific remit will be tailored to the successful candidate's strengths and the department's needs, it will involve a leadership element crucial to the ongoing success and high standards of teaching and learning in History, such as Key Stage 4 Modern History Lead or Developing Historical Literacy Across the Curriculum . The School This is a highly successful academy renowned for its Outstanding Ofsted rating , excellent student outcomes, and positive, forward-thinking school culture. The Humanities department is a strong and well-resourced faculty, committed to fostering critical thinking and ensuring all students achieve their academic potential. Located in Merton, the school offers excellent transport links and is part of a dynamic, supportive London educational environment. The school is dedicated to continuous staff development, offering a tailored CPD programme to help all staff, including those taking on new responsibilities, to thrive. We Are Looking For: A qualified teacher with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) . A proven track record as an excellent History Teacher (with a specialist interest in Modern History and the ability to teach a broad curriculum to at least KS4). A genuine passion for the subject and the ability to inspire students of all abilities to engage with the past and understand its contemporary relevance. The experience or ambition to take on a key area of responsibility within the department. The drive to uphold and contribute to the academy’s Outstanding standards . Salary and Benefits Main Pay Scale/Upper Pay Scale (MPS/UPS) for Inner London Teachers (currently £40,317 - £62,496 for 2025/2026). A Teaching and Learning Responsibility (TLR) payment , which in a role of this responsibility typically ranges from £3,527 to £17,216 (likely a TLR 2 or 1a/1b dependent on scale). The specific amount will be confirmed based on the final responsibility offered. Excellent, structured professional development and career progression pathways within the Inner London area.
