Job description
Summary The Quality Control (QC) Officer plays a key role in ensuring that products meet the highest standards of quality and comply with regulatory requirements. The QC Officer is responsible for conducting a variety of quality checks, inspections, and validations within the production environment, while closely collaborating with the Quality Manager. This role requires proactive measures to maintain product quality and safety, along with strict adherence to documentation protocols and established standards. Who are we? The Oxford Health Company is an award-winning contract manufacturing business specialising in the food supplement market. Since our incorporation in 2013, we’ve been recognised as one of the Times Top 100 Fastest-Growing Companies in 2023, with an impressive 58% average annual growth over the past three years. Our commitment to excellence has earned us numerous industry-specific accolades, including recent 2024 wins at the Oxfordshire Business Awards in both the Large Business and Green Award categories. We are a dynamic, entrepreneurial team driven by a mission to become the UK’s leading Food Supplement Manufacturer, both in turnover and service quality. Our success is built on offering expert service and the industry's shortest lead times to new and medium-sized brands with high-value propositions. Our headquarters and manufacturing facility are located in Bicester, with a second storage warehouse nearby. Since fitting out our state-of-the-art clean rooms and manufacturing facility in 2019, we have continued to invest in our infrastructure to better serve our customers and enhance operational efficiency. What will you do? This role supports day-to-day quality control and compliance across production and packing. Responsibilities include completing daily job checklists in the internal IT system to confirm quality control tasks are completed and correctly recorded. The postholder will also carry out real-time documentation verification for higher-risk processes involving allergens, probiotics and pet products, ensuring accuracy and traceability. The role also includes environmental and hygiene monitoring through ATP testing and environmental swab testing on a daily, weekly and as-required basis, working with external laboratories where applicable. Hand-cleaning procedures will be verified, including checks that water temperature meets hygiene standards. Weekly GMP checks will also be completed, with findings reported to the Quality Manager. Equipment and process validation is a key requirement, including performing and documenting checks for scales, callipers, Pharmatron, friability machines, and other measurement tools. The postholder will also verify metal detector performance (Fortress and Lomas systems) at required intervals and ensure all supporting documentation is completed correctly. Batch release assessments will be conducted to confirm packed products meet quality standards prior to approval. Where non-conformances occur, the postholder will open and manage corrective action tickets with the Quality Team Leader/Manager, ensuring issues are investigated and resolved appropriately. The role also involves product and allergen testing, including ATP and allergen rapid tests for relevant product categories, plus weekly and monthly allergen safety verification through rapid swabs and external laboratory testing. The postholder will contribute to continuous improvement by participating in quality and food safety meetings and supporting compliance and process improvement initiatives. What We’re Looking For 1+ years’ experience in a Quality Control/Quality Assurance role Experience working in FMCG or GMP environments. Attention to Detail: Exceptional focus on identifying deviations from standards. Observational Skills: Ability to detect cleanliness issues, non-conformances, and areas needing improvement. Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines. Continuous Improvement: Embraces opportunities to enhance work processes and product quality. Ticket Management: Skilled in effectively managing and resolving tickets related to quality issues. Assertiveness: Able to communicate confidently and assertively when addressing errors or deviations. Team Player: Demonstrates strong collaboration and communication within a team environment. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift a minimum of 16kg as required in the performance of duties. Why Join Us? Impactful Work: Contribute directly to our business’s growth and success. Career Development: Join a rapidly expanding business with opportunities to grow within your role. Supportive Team: Work alongside a collaborative, ambitious team.
