Job description
A high-performing and inclusive 11–18 secondary school in Loughborough is seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic Teacher of French to join its successful Modern Foreign Languages department. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity in a school where languages are highly valued and form a key part of the wider curriculum. French is a popular subject across the school, with strong uptake at GCSE and a growing presence at A-Level. The department is well-regarded for its positive culture, collaborative approach and commitment to high-quality language teaching. The Role You will teach French across Key Stages 3 and 4 , with the opportunity to teach KS5 for candidates with appropriate experience. The curriculum is carefully planned to build confidence in listening, speaking, reading and writing, with a strong emphasis on grammatical accuracy and cultural understanding. At Key Stage 3, lessons focus on developing solid foundations in phonics, vocabulary and sentence structure. Students are encouraged to speak French regularly in a supportive, structured environment, helping to build confidence early on. At GCSE, the department’s approach combines clear exam preparation with engaging, meaningful content. Lessons balance language skills with cultural topics, enabling students to apply their knowledge confidently in assessments. You will work within a shared curriculum framework while having the freedom to bring creativity and personality into your lessons. The MFL Department The Modern Foreign Languages department is a stable, friendly and collaborative team. Schemes of work and assessments are shared across the department, reducing planning workload and ensuring consistency across year groups. Department meetings focus on: Curriculum sequencing and progression Effective strategies for teaching grammar and vocabulary Supporting student confidence in speaking and writing Sharing resources and best practice The department also runs enrichment activities such as language clubs, cultural events and themed days, helping to raise the profile of languages across the school.
