Location: Islington, North London Role: EYFS Teaching Assistant Contract: Full-Time | Term-Time Only Start Date: ASAP or Next Term Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience School Overview This highly regarded and inclusive primary school in Islington is committed to delivering an outstanding Early Years Foundation Stage provision that prioritises children’s emotional wellbeing, early communication, and love of learning. The EYFS setting is vibrant, structured, and well-resourced, with strong emphasis on play-based learning, language development, and positive behaviour. Indoor and outdoor learning environments are carefully planned to encourage curiosity, independence, and collaboration. Teaching Assistants are valued as integral members of the EYFS team and are actively involved in planning, assessment, and daily routines. Due to rising pupil numbers and increased levels of additional needs within Early Years, the school is seeking a committed and nurturing EYFS Teaching Assistant to join their team. Role Purpose As an EYFS Teaching Assistant, you will support children aged 3–5 across Nursery and Reception, helping them to develop early literacy, numeracy, communication, and social skills. You will work closely with the class teacher and EYFS Lead to deliver structured learning activities alongside child-initiated play. A key element of the role involves supporting children with SEN, speech and language delays, EAL, and emotional or behavioural needs , ensuring that all pupils can access learning in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment. Key Responsibilities Support EYFS learning through play-based and adult-led activities Provide one-to-one and small group support for targeted interventions Support pupils with SEN, including autism, ADHD, and developmental delay Assist with phonics, early reading, mark-making, and early maths Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and independence Support classroom routines such as transitions, carpet time, and snack time Assist with outdoor learning and physical development activities Observe, assess, and record children’s progress Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals Support children with personal care needs where required Maintain safeguarding, health, and safety standards at all times The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will be calm, patient, and passionate about early childhood education. You will understand the importance of routine, attachment, and consistency in EYFS settings and be committed to inclusive practice. You should demonstrate: Experience working within EYFS or early years settings Knowledge of the EYFS framework and child development Experience or strong interest in SEN and inclusion A nurturing, proactive, and flexible approach Strong communication and teamwork skills Resilience in a busy classroom environment Training and Progression The school offers ongoing CPD, including: EYFS curriculum development SEN and inclusive education strategies Behaviour support and emotional wellbeing Safeguarding and child protection Clear progression routes are available into SEN TA, HLTA, or teacher training roles.
