Job description
We are currently seeking a dependable and proactive Caretaker to join a friendly and high-performing primary school in Portsmouth, Hampshire . The school prides itself on maintaining a happy and inclusive environment where every child feels valued and supported. With bright classrooms, well-kept outdoor areas, and modern facilities, the school provides a stimulating setting for both learning and play. Staff work collaboratively to ensure high standards are upheld across all areas of school life, including site maintenance and safety. The leadership team is supportive and places a strong emphasis on professional development, wellbeing, and teamwork. Role Information The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day security, upkeep, and general maintenance of the school site. Duties will include opening and locking up the premises, carrying out minor repairs, managing cleaning and maintenance schedules, liaising with contractors, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. You will take pride in keeping the site clean, safe, and welcoming for pupils and staff. Experience and Qualifications • Previous experience in a caretaking, maintenance, or facilities role desirable • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, or DIY repairs • Strong understanding of health and safety procedures and safeguarding in schools • Reliable, flexible, and able to work both independently and as part of a team • Friendly and approachable with good communication skills Salary Paid according to experience and local support staff pay scale Application This Caretaker position offers an excellent opportunity to join a warm and high-performing Portsmouth primary school that takes great pride in its learning environment.
