Job description
We are seeking a dedicated, patient, and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join an inclusive primary school in Romford, starting as soon as possible. This role is perfect for someone passionate about supporting children with additional needs, helping them access learning and thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The school has a strong inclusive ethos and works closely with families and external professionals to ensure pupils with SEND receive tailored, consistent support. Staff collaborate to create a nurturing and structured environment where every child feels valued and supported. Senior leadership is approachable and committed to professional development, mentoring, and ongoing training for staff. The Role As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside class teachers and the SENCo to provide targeted support for pupils with additional needs. Your responsibilities may include one-to-one or small group support, assisting pupils within lessons, and helping them develop independence, confidence, and positive learning behaviours. You will observe, monitor, and record pupil progress, provide feedback to teachers, and help implement interventions to support each child’s learning and wellbeing. Close collaboration with colleagues, parents, and external professionals is essential to ensure pupils receive the best possible support. Key Responsibilities Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEND Assist in delivering personalised learning plans and EHCP targets Support pupils academically, socially, and emotionally Promote positive behaviour, confidence, and independence Help pupils access lessons and remain engaged Observe, monitor, and record pupil progress accurately Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCo, and support staff Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals when required Maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment Participate in staff meetings, training, and CPD sessions Ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are followed at all times Who We’re Looking For The ideal candidate will: Have experience supporting children with SEND in a school setting Be patient, empathetic, and resilient Demonstrate excellent communication and teamwork skills Be proactive, flexible, and reliable Show a strong commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and pupil wellbeing Location The school is located in Romford, with excellent transport links and a supportive local community.
