Job description
Location: Oldham Borough Employer: MDMS – Education & School Operations Services Contract Type: Part-Time | Term-Time Only Hours: Approximately 1–2 hours per day, Monday to Friday Post Overview MDMS is seeking to appoint Midday Meal Supervisors to work in primary schools across the Oldham borough . This role is essential to maintaining pupil safety, wellbeing, and positive behaviour during the lunchtime period. The successful applicants will support schools by supervising pupils during meals and playtime, ensuring that lunchtime runs smoothly, safely, and in accordance with school policies and procedures. Purpose of the Role The purpose of the Midday Meal Supervisor role is to ensure the safety, welfare, and orderly conduct of pupils during the lunchtime break. This includes supervising pupils while eating, managing movement around the school site, and overseeing indoor and outdoor play activities. Lunchtime can present challenges for some pupils. Clear expectations, consistent routines, and calm supervision help ensure all children are able to enjoy their break in a safe and supportive environment. Key Duties Duties associated with this role include: Supervising pupils during the lunch period in dining halls, classrooms, corridors, and playgrounds Ensuring pupils enter and leave dining areas safely and calmly Encouraging good manners and appropriate behaviour during meals Assisting younger pupils with meals where appropriate Being aware of pupils with allergies, medical needs, or special dietary requirements Monitoring behaviour and addressing low-level issues in line with school policy Supervising outdoor play, ensuring equipment is used safely Promoting positive, inclusive play and discouraging unsafe behaviour Supporting pupils during indoor play when weather conditions require Administering basic first aid as required (training provided) Reporting accidents, incidents, or behavioural concerns to the designated staff member Reporting safeguarding or child protection concerns in line with statutory guidance Following health and safety procedures at all times Person Specification MDMS is looking for reliable and responsible individuals who are confident supervising children. Previous experience in a school, childcare, or care setting is desirable but not essential. Applicants should demonstrate: An ability to remain calm and authoritative when supervising groups of children Clear communication skills Consistency and fairness when managing behaviour Awareness of safeguarding responsibilities Reliability, punctuality, and professionalism The ability to work independently using initiative Physical capability to supervise active play This role is suitable for individuals seeking regular, term-time employment within a school setting. Training and Support Successful candidates will receive appropriate training and support, including: Induction training prior to starting work Safeguarding and child protection training Guidance on lunchtime supervision and behaviour management Ongoing support from MDMS and school leadership This role provides valuable experience for those considering further work within education. Working Arrangements Term-time only contract Part-time hours, typically 1–2 hours per day Monday to Friday working pattern Placement within primary schools across Oldham Consistent daily routine Safeguarding MDMS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
