Finance Manager – Independent Secondary School – St Albans Start Date: As soon as possible Contract: Full-time, Permanent Salary: Paid to scale School Information This established independent 11–18 secondary school in St Albans is recognised for its academic excellence, structured governance, and strong financial stability. The school combines traditional educational values with modern operational systems and benefits from excellent facilities and high parental engagement. Financial management is central to the school’s long-term sustainability and strategic growth. Clear budgeting processes, compliance systems, and financial oversight procedures are embedded throughout the organisation. The school is seeking an experienced and strategic Finance Manager to lead its financial operations. Role Overview The Finance Manager will oversee the full financial management of the school. Key responsibilities include: Preparing and managing annual budgets Producing financial forecasts and reports Managing accounts payable and receivable Overseeing payroll processes Monitoring expenditure and cost controls Ensuring compliance with financial regulations Preparing reports for governors and trustees Managing audits and financial reviews Supervising finance staff Supporting long-term financial planning This role requires strong leadership, analytical skills, and financial oversight experience. Finance & Leadership Structure The Finance Manager works closely with the Headteacher and governing body, playing a key role in strategic planning. Candidate Requirements Professional finance qualification (AAT/ACCA/CIMA desirable) Significant financial management experience Strong budgeting and reporting skills Experience within education (desirable) High attention to detail Leadership and team management experience Commitment to financial accountability Application To apply, please send your CV as soon as possible.
