Job description
A well-established secondary school in Bedford is seeking a Design & Technology Technician to join their DT faculty from January . This is an exciting opportunity for a practical, organised, and proactive individual who enjoys working in a hands-on environment and supporting students’ technical learning. Role Overview You will work closely with the DT teaching team to ensure that workshops, tools, machinery, and resources are fully prepared, well-maintained, and safely operated. The role involves: Preparing materials for Resistant Materials, Graphics, Product Design, Engineering and related DT subjects Supporting teachers during practical lessons Maintaining equipment and machinery to required safety standards Ensuring safe storage and handling of tools, components, and consumables Organising stock, ordering supplies, and monitoring inventory Helping students develop confidence using workshop equipment This role suits someone with a technical or workshop background who enjoys problem-solving, planning ahead, and contributing to a creative, practical learning environment. School Information The school is known for its welcoming staff culture, structured routines, and strong emphasis on professional trust. The DT department benefits from: Large dedicated workshop spaces CAD/CAM equipment, 3D printers, laser cutters High-quality tools and technician work areas Excellent collaboration between staff The leadership team values support staff and encourages professional development through training and regular CPD opportunities. Candidate Requirements Practical workshop experience preferred Understanding of health & safety in workshop settings Organised, dependable, and able to work independently Positive communication and willingness to support in lessons Salary Competitive, term-time only, based on experience.
