Job description
A thriving co-educational independent Mixed School in Gosforth, known for its balanced curriculum and high uptake of Humanities subjects, is recruiting an enthusiastic Teacher of History for a Maternity Cover, Full-Time contract, commencing January 2026. Compensation & Contract Job Title: Teacher of History Contract: Maternity Cover, Full-Time Start Date: January 2026 Salary: Competitive salary structured on the independent school pay scale. The Role The successful Teacher of History will deliver stimulating lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 (GCSE), fostering critical thinking and nuanced historical understanding. You will be fully integrated into the Humanities team, receiving support and resources to effectively cover the curriculum during this fixed-term post. The school requires the Teacher of History to encourage strong analytical skills through research projects and historical debate. This full-time cover post offers an excellent opportunity for a dedicated Teacher of History to gain experience in the independent sector. The appointed Teacher of History will contribute to the supportive atmosphere and academic integrity of the department. Applications are invited from experienced professionals seeking a Full-Time Teacher of History role, or a promising ECT ready to step up. The department welcomes a highly skilled Teacher of History to maintain its excellent examination results. You must be committed to delivering a high standard of education throughout the term of the contract as the Teacher of History.
