Job description
A dynamic and well-equipped secondary school in Luton is seeking a skilled and proactive Design & Technology (DT) Technician to join its DT department. This is a full-time, permanent role available immediately, ideal for someone with practical technical skills and experience supporting teaching staff in a busy school environment. The DT department offers students opportunities to explore a range of materials and processes, including resistant materials, textiles, electronics, and computer-aided design. Technicians play a vital role in supporting lessons, maintaining resources, and ensuring that all students can work safely and effectively. Role Responsibilities As a DT Technician, your responsibilities will include: Preparing materials, tools, and equipment for practical DT lessons across all key stages. Assisting teaching staff during lessons and supporting students with the safe use of machinery and tools. Maintaining and organising workshops, equipment, and resources to ensure a safe and efficient working environment. Supporting health and safety compliance, including the safe handling and storage of tools, materials, and chemicals. Monitoring stock levels and placing orders as required to maintain continuity of lessons. Assisting with project setups, displays, and departmental events. Candidate Requirements Previous experience as a DT Technician, workshop assistant, or similar practical role. Strong understanding of DT materials, tools, and machinery. Knowledge of health and safety procedures in a workshop environment. Organised, proactive, and reliable with good communication skills.
