Job description
We are seeking a confident, motivated, and committed Year 5 Teacher to join a welcoming and high-performing primary school in Surbiton, starting as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who enjoys Upper Key Stage 2 and is passionate about helping pupils develop independence, resilience, and strong academic foundations. The school has a positive, inclusive ethos with high expectations for learning and behaviour. Staff work collaboratively to deliver engaging lessons and ensure pupils are well supported both academically and emotionally. Senior leadership is approachable and supportive, offering clear guidance, mentoring, and high-quality professional development opportunities. As the Year 5 Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering a broad and balanced curriculum while preparing pupils for the increased expectations of Year 6. You will encourage critical thinking, responsibility, and confidence, helping pupils become motivated and enthusiastic learners. Key Responsibilities Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality lessons across the Year 5 curriculum Create a structured, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment Use assessment data to track progress and plan targeted interventions Differentiate learning to meet the needs of all pupils, including SEND and EAL Promote positive behaviour, independence, and strong learning habits Prepare pupils for the academic and emotional demands of Year 6 Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, colleagues, and senior leaders Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding pupil progress Contribute to staff meetings, CPD sessions, and whole-school initiatives Ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are followed at all times The Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will: Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) Have experience teaching in Upper Key Stage 2, ideally Year 5 Demonstrate strong knowledge of the KS2 curriculum and assessment frameworks Be organised, proactive, and confident in the classroom Have excellent classroom management and communication skills Be reflective, adaptable, and committed to professional development Show a strong commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and pupil wellbeing The school is located in Surbiton, with excellent transport links and a supportive local community.
