Serving a broad socio-economic community, the school has a reputation for exceptional pastoral care and student wellbeing. A strong emphasis is placed on nurturing the whole child, ensuring that every student feels safe, supported, and confident in accessing learning. The Role The school is seeking a dedicated Welfare Officer to join its pastoral and safeguarding team. This role is central to ensuring the physical and emotional wellbeing of students, supporting those with medical needs, and maintaining effective communication between families, external services, and the school. The ideal candidate will have experience working with young people, knowledge of welfare protocols, and the ability to respond sensitively to a wide range of situations. You will work closely with safeguarding leads, pastoral staff, SEND teams, and attendance officers to ensure that all students receive comprehensive wellbeing support. The position requires excellent communication, strong organisational skills, and the ability to respond quickly to welfare concerns. Key Responsibilities • Acting as the main point of contact for student welfare and medical concerns during the school day • Managing and updating care plans, medical records, and welfare documentation • Providing first aid, emergency response, and general medical support • Coordinating referrals to external agencies such as CAMHS, social care, and early-help services • Supporting vulnerable students throughout the school day, including emotional check-ins • Liaising with parents, carers, and health professionals • Overseeing the storage and administration of medication in accordance with policy • Supporting safeguarding procedures and escalating concerns appropriately • Maintaining accurate logs and incident reporting • Working with pastoral leaders to create personalised support packages for students • Delivering wellbeing interventions, health workshops, or preventative programmes • Contributing to attendance monitoring and early-intervention strategies Person Specification • Experience working with young people in a welfare, pastoral, or medical capacity • First Aid qualification (or willingness to undertake training) • Strong awareness of safeguarding protocols • Empathy, patience, and strong interpersonal skills • Ability to respond calmly in high-pressure situations • Excellent record-keeping and administrative accuracy • Ability to work collaboratively within a wider pastoral framework Application To apply, please send your CV as soon as possible.
